Buyer Beware: Not All that Looks Like LLM is Real
If you're hearing about "LLM" and thinking it has something to do with artificial intelligence — you're not wrong. These days, LLM often refers to Large Language Models, like ChatGPT. But in Liberland, LLM has meant something entirely different for over a decade.
What is LLM in Liberland?
In the Free Republic of Liberland, LLM stands for Liberland Merit — our official political token. If you are a Liberland citizen, it's the token that gives you the power to vote and take part in shaping our future. Think of it as both a symbol of contribution and a tool of meritocracy/democracy.
Why the Confusion?
Recently, many cryptocurrencies have jumped on the AI bandwagon, using the ticker LLM to cash in on the hype surrounding language models and artificial intelligence. That’s fine — we were here first, and we wish them well. A typical example of such a non-malicious LLM coin is here. This is not our Merit, so do not be confused by it.
But here’s the problem: some of these so-called “LLMs” are not just unrelated — they are useless meme coins.
A Word of Warning
There is at least one fake “LLM” token out there. It has nothing to do with Liberland, and if you invest in it thinking you’re supporting our republic or gaining voting rights — you’re making a costly mistake.
Even Chat GPT and Gemini get routinely fooled. When we asked each what the price of LLM is, it provided answers like “0.0019 to 0.00003” USD per LLM, and that it is traded on Coinbase. This is in part complete hallucination (Coinbase mention) and in part confusing real LLM with fakes. Buyer beware!
A couple examples of fake LLM:
This fake token is what crypto enthusiasts call a “grade A shitcoin” — a token with no value, no purpose, and no future.
If you’re serious about buying real Liberland Merits (LLM), do it only through our official website: www.liberland.org.
You can also go to blockchain.liberland.org and there, you can already exchange LLD for LLM.
As of now, LLM is not listed on any centralized or decentralized exchange (CEX or DEX). That means any token claiming to be “LLM” on exchanges is not ours.
So How Will You Know When It’s Real?
When the genuine Liberland Merit becomes available on DEXes, we will make a formal announcement. You’ll find all official information — including the correct smart contract address — on our trusted documentation portal:
